Yes, I'm free to give an honest "yes."

And in those moments when I am aware that I am giving a "yes" to someone else in order to manipulate or to elicit something from them in return, I'm either aware of it and take a deeper look at it, or I'm open and honest about it with the other person and I let them know from the start what I expect from them in return.

I am free to give an honest yes. I don't expect anything in return, but if I say yes to someone often and they say no to me often enough, I stop saying yes to them. There are takers out there, and sometimes people who are too giving can feel taken advange of. SOmetimes we don't even realize it until time has passed.

This is an interesting question. I recently had a relative ask me for money and I said no. Although the response wasn't "yes", it was still an honest one which they were not very happy about. (I have several reasons for my "no" reply which I won't get into.) As soon as they didn't get the answer they wanted, they became bitter towards me and even called me cheap.
