Question #22

How do you deal with your anger?

One thing I always alert people to is that they don't need to use a possessive pronoun when referring to anger (or illness). Anger is like a hot potato that gets tossed from person to person. Owning it is a choice which requires grabbing hold and claiming it. "Mine, mine, mine" is not a healthy approach to the energy of anger imho. So in answer to your question, I don't own any.

I also don't toss it around, but that's another issue.

I find that I can keep my irritation (at whatever it may be) at a simmer for quite some time, but when someone pushes a certain button, I am quick to lash out (verbally, never physically) and then, later, realize the triviality of the situation. Sometimes when I feel myself building toward anger about something, I find that exercise really helps me remove myself from whatever it is that is making me angry. Also, I've always found that a long, scenic drive listening to music really takes me down from being angry and soothes me. In general, if I'm able to talk it out with the source/person right off the bat, that is the best solution for me. I'm one that needs to communicate & 'talk it out' rather than fester & not discuss.

I have to resolve the situation that caused the anger as quickly as possible. I rarely let anger simmer or fester...
